• This position performs work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas and reading and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using specialized electronic equipment to accurately detect, verify and locate buried utilities.
• Under the guidance and direction of the Locate Area Supervisor, Locate Technicians work in and walk over all types of terrain (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.) in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, etc.).
• Locators also remove and replace manhole lids, and must be able to lift up to 75 pounds periodically in order to properly locate buried utility lines.
• Use of lap top computer or other electronic devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after normal business hours. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite.
• Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
• Knowledge of basic electricity and use of electrical locating instruments. Must have basic knowledge of underground gas systems and underground electric.
• Use assigned communications equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps and company personnel regarding underground facilities.
• Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and identify underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Perform light excavation with a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.
• Provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed.
• Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
• Ability to exhibit a positive, friendly and helpful attitude with customers and to be sensitive to their needs.
• Operate assigned company vehicle in a safe manner, and maintain professional appearance.
• Must be able to successfully complete SiteWise LLC locate training program and successfully pass applicable written and field testing.
• Develop general knowledge of Colorado State and local damage prevention regulations.  
• Able to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of OSHA Safety codes and regulations
• Excellent attendance record required.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications Required:

• High school diploma with minimum 2 years related experience.
• Qualified applicants must be customer oriented and motivated with excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.  

• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees.
• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and staff to make an accurate assessment of customer needs.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to verify and calculate figures, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations required to accurately complete assigned tasks.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to use sound judgment and problem solving skills to analyze customer problems and to recommend the proper course of action.
• Ability to organize and prioritize job projects and requirements.

Attendance Demands:

The attendance demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Attendance is required Monday through Friday 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. or within normal business hours as established by the Contract Locate Area Supervisor. Employee may be required to work overtime, and occasional Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
